The time to invest in a mighty oak is when it’s a little acorn
In an environment where size is seen as an attribute of success, we believe the ideas with the biggest potential for impact come from startups taking on new and as-yet-uncharted markets. We're India's leading early-stage venture fund - and unlike many other VCs we’re happy to focus on businesses that are in what we call not-yet-sectors.
A hand beats a handout
Early-stage companies typically need advice, help, connections and the benefit of experience much more than they need cash. While we do have the cash, what we spent more time putting together is our team of partners with more than 120 years of entrepreneurial experience between them. We believe that is the edge that helps our investees win in their markets.
Revolution, not just evolution.
Is your idea too little of a change in the status quo? We believe the greater the ambition, the greater the chance of it striking a chord that resonates far and wide - and the greater the chance of success.
One-man armies don't win battles
All investors talk of the importance of teams. We go one step further - we help you put together one. We're one of the few funds with an in-house incubation program that can work with you even before you have a company that is fundable.
Lead in your space, don't follow in another's
Some investors want you to play in a large, existing market. We prefer that you create your own. Be king of a niche that can explode into a large market over time.
Break even quickly
Conventional wisdom might urge you to keep raising and spending money to build marketshare. We believe different. We think you should quickly establish that you have a viable business – the share will follow with time and profitable execution. We will work with you to help you stand on your own feet soon as you can, then choose to invest more if it works for you. Survive first, grow next.
A smile is the best yield curve
Doing a startup isn't easy. Funding one isn't, either. The relationship between us isn't going to be roses all the way. There'll be good times, bad times and incredibly horrible times. Do we like each other as people and can we still be friends at the end of it all? For us, this chemistry is a big deal.
